Welcome to a Different Kind of Congregation

Photo of Church Building

The First Unitarian Church of Omaha has offered a unique approach to religion emphasizing the freedom to explore various spiritual paths,  tolerance for diverse ideas,  and the use of  reason in religion, since its founding in 1869 .   We see the religious community as a place that will not lay down rigid rules,  but instead invites you into a dialogue about the meaning of your life and about your relationship with others, with our planet,  and with the mystery that lies beyond and within.

We explore various religious traditions for their wisdom – not only the Jewish and Christian sources but also the world religions.  In addition, we learn from the natural world, science, literature, and the great minds and inspiring individuals of past and present.

In a community of young and old, gay and straight, from various cultural and racial backgrounds, we seek to make this world a better place for all.

We seek to be a place where people can find respite from their busy lives to explore the deeper questions of living.   We seek to be a place which offers opportunity for service.  We seek to be a place where people can come together to support one another in our life journeys,  to heal life’s wounds and celebrate our joys.

You are warmly invited to visit The First Unitarian Church.   See you on Sunday!

Gift Cards Help to Support First Unitarian Church

Did you know that you can support your church with no additional out of pocket expense. Gift cards (often called "scrip" can be purchased from the church at face value and then spent at the issuing merchant just like cash. Because the church is able to purchase these gift card at a discount, you are actually contributing to the church a portion of what you normally spend at the merchant . Our initial Gift Card/Scrip project is with Bakers Supermarket. More Information.

Governance Task Force

The Board of Trustees has established a task force to consider how we might improve our governance processes and organization. Check out the GTF Web Page to learn more about their assignment.

Church Parking

On Sundays, we reserve our parking lot immediately next to the church to accommodate the handicapped, anyone else who needs to park near the building, and visitors to our service.  We ask that all others use the nearby free parking that is readily available thanks to our neighbors National Indemnity Company and Mutual of Omaha.

Standing on the Side of Love
Standing on the Side of Love is a public advocacy campaign that seeks to harness love’s power to stop oppression. It is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association and all are welcomed to join.

Too much of our public discourse is driven not by love, but by fear, which often scapegoats particular people and deems them somehow less than human. This is a violation of all faiths which are centered in love. This campaign seeks to harness the power of love to stop oppression, exclusion, and violence.
