Welcome to a Different Kind of Congregation

The First Unitarian Church of Omaha has offered a unique approach to religion emphasizing the freedom to explore various spiritual paths,  tolerance for diverse ideas,  and the use of  reason in religion, since its founding in 1869 .   We see the religious community as a place that will not lay down rigid rules,  but instead invites you into a dialogue about the meaning of your life and about your relationship with others, with our planet,  and with the mystery that lies beyond and within.

We explore various religious traditions for their wisdom – not only the Jewish and Christian sources but also the world religions.  In addition, we learn from the natural world, science, literature, and the great minds and inspiring individuals of past and present.

In a community of young and old, gay and straight, from various cultural and racial backgrounds, we seek to make this world a better place for all.

We seek to be a place where people can find respite from their busy lives to explore the deeper questions of living.   We seek to be a place which offers opportunity for service.  We seek to be a place where people can come together to support one another in our life journeys,  to heal life’s wounds and celebrate our joys.

You are warmly invited to visit The First Unitarian Church.   See you on Sunday!

Regular Sunday Services begin at 11:00am and are followed by our traditional coffee hour in the church social hall called the Common Room.   Except in the summer children grades K-6 attend Sunday School at 11:15am following "The Story for All Ages" which occurs early in the service.  Child care is provided in the nursery for infants and pre-school children.

Dress comfortably. Free parking is available in the lot west of the Church.

Wednesday Night Youth Group
Youth in grades 7-12 participate in our popular YRUU program.

Unitarian Universalists Respond to Tragedy in Knoxville

On July 27th, a children's play being presented at the Sunday service of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church was interrupted by gunfire. The Unitarian Universalist Association's web site contains complete information about this tragedy and how our congregations are rallying to support the victims.

Construction and Finding Our Church
First Unitarian Church of Omaha is located at 3114 Harney Street and our neighborhood is a busy place these days. The new buildings of the Midtown Crossing development are going up all around us and many of the streets are under construction as well. The easiest way to reach us is by coming from the west on Harney Street. Currently 33rd Street is closed from Dodge to Harney Streets. You can also reach the church from the north via Turner Park Blvd. and entering through the alley behind our building. Be prepared for construction traffic on this alley, however.

Church Parking
On Sundays, we reserve our parking lot immediately next to the church to accommodate the handicapped, anyone else who needs to park near the building, and visitors to our service.  We ask that all others use the Mutual of Omaha Parking Garage, The Tamarack Building Parking Lot, or the significant amount of on-street parking on Harney Street.

Mutual Parking GarageMutual of Omaha's Parking Garage - 33rd & Harney

Mutual's newly expanded parking garage begins at 33rd and Harney Streets and extends east to the edge or our church parking lot. Mutual has kindly made the parking garage available free of charge for our use on Sundays between 8:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.  Please note that you will not be able to enter after 1:00 P.M., but will be able to exit after that time. You will not need an access card.  (Check with our office in advance for availabilities for special events.)

• Use the left-most lane as you pass the 33rd street traffic light.
Use the first entrance as you are heading toward the church on Harney Street.
Turn right as your enter the garage and drive to the lower level.
Park on the lower level.

Tamarak Building Lot - 31st & Harney

Thanks to National Indemnty Company, our neighbor to the east, we may also park free of charge in the Tamarak Building's south parking lot on Sundays. The Tamarack building is diagonally across from our church on the southeast corner of 31st and Harney Streets. The south lot is identified by a sign identifying it as a National Indemnity parking lot.
